It's One of Those "In My Head" Posts

The following is a list (in no real order) of things I would like to accomplish everyday. Not just one day, not just twice a week, but on the perfect day (one with about 52 hours), this is what I would like to do...

Read, study and meditate on scripture for, like, an hour.
Exercise with my newly acquired (for $49) Wii Fit for, at least, 45 minutes.
Read one book with Bubba.
Supervise all of Scarlett's school and make a fun food that relates to what she is studying that day.
Do laundry so that none is left.
Keep all dishes out of my sink and neatly put away in their appropriate places.
Practice guitar.
Teach Scarlett how to play guitar.
Sing songs with Bubba.
Read a few chapters of any book.
Worship with my kids.
Worship by myself.
Organize something.
Play with Bubba.
Knit with Scarlett.
Pray with Not-So-Classic.
Call all of the people who call me and have real, meaningful conversations with them.
Watch Scarlett dance.
Learn more about China. (We're going there this summer, Scarlett and I)
Pray for the people who are on my heart.
Write notes to people who the Lord wants me to encourage.
Clean the bathrooms.
Vacuum.
Finger paint with Bubba.
Make amazing food for all meals.
Learn a new recipe.
Swing dance with Not-So-Classic. (He's an amazing dancer.)
And, take a nap.

Now, that would be the greatest, most fulfilling day I can ever imagine. For now, I'll settle for half of this list. ;) But I aim high.

What We've Been Up To

It turns out, raising kids is a full time job :) My days have been filled with hugs and kisses, tears, poop and math homework. It really is a great life, isn't it? I mean really, I get to be with these kids everyday and sure, some days are trying... like when Bubba has a cold and just cries because he can't communicate very well yet, but the kid is adorable. I'll keep him.

Scarlett is amazing as well. The poor kid has to put on two different creams for eczema and has seborrhea (flaky, really flaky scalp). When we visited the doctor two weeks ago, she told us to try Scarlett on a no dairy diet for three weeks to see if her skin issues had to do with a milk sensitivity. Well, we are faithfully in week two. In those two weeks, Scarlett has had to endure two cake and ice-cream laden little girl's birthday parties. Both of which she politely turned down the victuals. She's wonderful.

So, if you don't see me around for days, even weeks at a time, you''l know where I am: running after giggly Bubba and buying soy milk and mozzarella cheese made from vegetables for Scarlett.

Happy Birthday, Mom

If you've read this blog for any amount of time, you know how much I admire my mom. I write about her on Mother's Day, on her birthday and whenver I feel like it. Since today is her birthday, I thought I'd send her kind of a blog-card. Mom loves to laugh. So, mom, this one's for you.

Happy Birthday, Mom!

New Skill to the Craftless

If you look though my mom's photo albums, you will see chubby-cheeked Christmas pictures of me holding up my hands to model the newly knitted gloves that my Me-Me made especially for me each year. She also always made a scarf and a hat to match. . I'm sure that each year, after the picture was snapped, I would take them off and search for a wrapped goodies that looked like a toy. As a kid, you don't really appreciate the work that someone puts into an annual gift like that.

As I grew older, I learned to think much more of those made-with-love gifts from Me-Me and from other talented folks. But I, the one with all the thumbs, was not one to attempt such a time-consuming trick as that. Until today...

A few of the crafty moms from my church held a knitting and crocheting day and I (gasp) attended AND participated. (Certain family members of mine just either laughed or fainted from sheer amazement.) Today I started to learn to knit, but I learned a whole lot more...

Scarlett is crafty. She spent many hours hanging out with Me-Me. For her, today was a fun refresher course. For me, it was an exercises in humility and I'm so glad that Scarlett was there. Many times, our kids only see us succeed, they only see us in our element. Scarlett had a great time asking me how I was doing and encouraging ME in something that SHE was good at. She was also able to witness me messing up repeatedly, having to ask for help and sticking with the project, even though it was hard for me.

The other thing that excited me today was witnessing my friends excel. Often, my crafty buddies are the quiet ones. They rarely draw attention to themselves, but today, during these craft circles, these ladies were the experts, the ones called upon, the ones instructing novice crafters and they did it with ease.

I have to point out one of my teachers today because her ability was so apparent to me. My friend Tiffany is an excellent teacher. There are many people who are proficient at a task, but struggle to explain how do to that task to someone else. Today, I witnessed, first hand, Tiffany's skill as well as her ability to replicate that skill. She is an amazing teacher. She is so encouraging and fun that you can't help but want to be around her and try the things that she does. Why? Because she tells you that you can.

Thank you to all the ladies who helped today. (Especially Livin' Life, hope you feel better!) I can't wait until next time. I've been practicing. It ain't pretty, but I'm not giving up.
