"Mommy?"
"Do you want to sit on the potty?"
"No potty, Mommy."
"Should Mommy go on the potty?"
"Uh, No."
"Should Daddy go n the potty?"
"Uh, No."
"Should Sissy go on the potty?"
"Uh, Okay."
He doesn't want to sit on, go near, look at or even discuss the potty. To him, it is a porthole of the unknown. He hates it. Upon reading the posts of my dear friend Promises Fulfilled, who I don't see nearly as much as I'd like to but that's what happens when you have toddlers, I was inspired. I think that my little prince may go on the potty if I got him one and put it in the spot that he now goes when he needs to do his business.
So, today, I'm asking for your input. How did you train your little boys? (The girl was much easier, especially since the Original Classic Mama did it for me.) What kind of potty did you purchase? Did purchase one? Where can a Mama tired of buying diapers find herself a good, cheap potty? I welcome any and all advice. Otherwise, Bubba will go to the Original Classic Mama this summer for "Potty Camp."

I vote for potty camp.
both my boys didn't want to, had no interest in, couldn't have care less about the potty until they were right around 3.
Until then... pffffffft.
But we had the cushy little seats that sat on the big seat and a foot stool. We had blues clues and Elmo. Now we have one in each bath room for Mini-E who can go and is willing to -- but is apparently afraid she'll fall in.
Well, I am glad that I inspired you - and I hope to write an update on the potty training this week!
The first thing that you may want to consider, is that boys usually are not interested in potty training until they are almost 3, so if he is not interested yet, don't stress yourself out - I was told this by MANY people. However, once he was 3, I was ready, asked the Lord to prepare him (and me), and just decided that it was time.
I definitely did NOT want to do the naked butt thing (as you may remember), but putting my little guy in thicker underwear was the best thing to do - then when he peed - he had a bit of a shock! Pull-ups (or whatever training pants you buy) are great for when you are going out somewhere...just in case (and also nap time). Poop was "harder" to train than pee - we have actually been going back and forth with that (will write about it some time this week).
As far as the potty goes - I have 2 types - a Baby Bjorn (very nice - one piece and easy to clean) and another one that has handles on the sides - also nice, but there is a chance of it getting a little "messier". We taught him how to pee sitting down first - it is cleaner and I like that. We just taught him the standing up way - necessary for when we are out. Anyway - I got my potties from my sis and also from Natalie...so, maybe you could borrow one from someone or maybe at a consignment shop or at any store - I think that they range around $15 give or take.
Ok, there is probably more that I could say, but I will leave you with this. Don't stress yourself out about it. Diapers may be annoying, but it will be more annoying to try and get him to do something that he is not ready for. Pray that he will be ready soon! Once he is, he will most likely be potty trained within a few days. (I am spfrom my own experience and a few others that I know...however, every child is different and trains different).
Well, it is late, I am tired, and I hope that this rambling makes sense.
We will have to get together - it would be nice to see you again!
In potty training three boys we took our Ped's advice and waited until they were ready. He told us girls can potty train earlier then boys. All three of the boys were 3 1/2 - 4 years old when we potty trained and it took one week with no accidents at night. By that time they were ready.
Tiffany has this cool toilet seat that you can buy to go right on your potty. The top is the cover the middle is the little seat and the lower section is the adult seat. I wish they had that for our kids. We didn't have a little potty we just bought the seat cover you can place on top of your toilet. After growing up on a farm I wasn't about to empty any more poo out of stuff. Just my personal preference. Fun stuff! I'll be praying for you guys.
Save yourself the frutration and send him to Potty Camp.
I have never potty trained a boy myself, but I have heard of people having success by putting a sticker at the bottom of the potty chair so they can 'shoot' it and win a prize...
We put Cheerios in the potty and let him aim at them, if he could sink them he won a prize out of the basket (which was a lollipop). The other thing is, it is getting warmer, and starting boys outside is easiest...our pediatrician offers that suggestion.
The oldest....he was the easiest. Just sat him there when it was 'his time' throughout the day....and after a while - he learned & recognized the sensation.
The latter two....much more tedious...and messy. no pants when we were at home alone...constantly asking them "do you have to go?". They were stubborn (and still are sometimes) :)
