If ten years ago someone showed me a picture of me today, I would have told them that that would most certainly not be me. Ten years ago I probably would have deluded myself into thinking that a picture of the twenty-nine-year-old me would include me still in school pursuing my doctorate wearing some really swank, classy outfit, eating a salad and reading some amazing book written by a dead guy. Nineteen-year-old me couldn't have been further from the truth.
Today I went to the grocery store with my eight-year-old pixie that I'll call "Scarlett" (fiddle-dee-dee) and my brand new three month old, affectionately called, "Bubba." With Bubba strapped to me in a snuggli drooling all over my grey hooded sweatshirt (that I think I only wore three times last week) and my bigger-than-I-would-usually-wear-but-at-least-they're-not-still-maternity jeans I pushed a wobbly cart at the local Giant. I think my shoes were tied. Maybe. Maybe not.
My coupons were in my hand, Scarlett was in charge of the list and Bubba, well, Bubba is in charge of his left hand (the one he chews on the most) and napping. We shopped, we paid and we came home in time to put away the groceries, feed Bubba, make lunch and watch half an hour of Roman Holiday starring our favorite actress: Audrey Hepburn. (Background: Every day for lunch we watch one half hour of an old movie. It's Scarlett's favorite part of the day.)
As I sat watching the movie with a beaming Scarlett and a prattling Bubba in one had and a bologna sandwich in the other, I mused silently: "Wow. When I was nineteen, I was sure selling myself short." This is a much better life than I could have ever imagined. It just reminds me that God really does have amazing plans for us, but if He were to tell us what those plans were, we might not be able to handle them.
Today I'm happy to be a 29 year-old stay at home homeschoolin' mom with Scarlett and Bubba waiting for my adorable husband to come home. Life is good. It's not perfect, but "life doesn't have to be perfect to be wonderful." (Annette Funicello)

Hi, Kelli, thanks for introducing me to your blog. I love that I can hear your voice as I read your writings...I appreciate your thoughtfulness, honesty, and your appreciation for life in all it's stages and seasons. I especially appreciate how you encourage me--whenever I see you, you leave an inprint of love on my heart. I'm grateful for you....
You are a blessed woman of God!
Well, well, well...look who we have here. "Classic Mama" has been the subject of several e-mails as we all try to figure out who the mystery woman is.
Welcome to the Blogosphere! I loved this post and look forward from many more 'thoughts'. I especially love all your film references...maybe I'll be inspired to dig into the classics more.
Do you mind if I give you a shout out on my site and link? Or do you want more time to get your "blogging feet"?
Welcome to bloggy world! I just emailed MIA to see who you were in real life!
